From the book:
Porch Swing
he knew they were lovers officially
when they shared ice tea
from the same Mason jar
while slowly moving on the porch swing
gazing at the stars
like the stars were red tailed hawks
and although the pastures were familiar
somehow they seemed different
now he put his finger as to why
shadows cooled the air
and dampened her into a shiver
so naturally
and nonchalantly
he slopped his arm around her shoulder
pleased he’d gotten this far
this close
sneaking like a red fox
and in an instant she snuggled in
roots settling in
after transplanting
it was then
his belief was confirmed
she wanted him too
the world slipped into his arms
all their concerns floated away
then sweeping laughter
entered their hearts
