From the Introduction:
These poems grew from a desire to capture in words what that relaxed, meditative lakeside experience is like, and what it does for the body and soul. There are forty-seven distinct poems, reflecting varied moods, feelings and experiences. On the other hand, the entire series could also be viewed as a single, long, multi-part love poem to Lake Michigan, many years in the making.
From the book:
6.
Storm coming in,
sky and water
the same deep gray.
What’s worse,
I ask myself--
to get soaked
or to miss
what comes next
28.
beside the campfire
we talk into the night
foghorn moans
in the distance
the lighthouse light
comes round again
and again
and again
