Facilitators

Michael Czarnecki is a poet, small press publisher, oral memoirist and photographer who lives in the far northwestern region of the Susquehanna Watershed. He, and his wife Carolyn, formed FootHills Publishing in 1986 and has published over 500 books and chapbooks by poets throughout the United States and beyond.

Michael has been writing poetry for fifty years and has made his living solely through the creative word for nearly a quarter of a century. He often goes out on the poetic road, giving readings and facilitating workshops throughout America. When on tour, usually more than half of the venues he appears at are repeat venues, attesting to the success of his presentations. He has often been referred to as “Michael Poetseed” by others and considers himself an “Encourager.”

At This Moment, Nothing Else: A Gathering of Poets, Michael will facilitate haiku and Palm of the Hand Memoir workshops as well as participating in conversations about poetry, life, and traveling the creative path. He will also be available for individual “encouragement” sessions if so desired.

More information about Michael can be found on his website: www.foothillspublishing.com/poetguy

Item:

John Berry is a poet and woodworker who, while writing poetry from a very young age, and into his twenties, lost that connection for many years in what he has come to understand as “the mistaken responsibilities of adulthood”.  At the age of 47, during a four day journey exploring the teachings of the Medicine Wheel with a group of men, he woke up early on the second day feeling the need to write a poem. Not a day since then has poetry ceased to have a profound impact on his life.

What had become a life challenged by lost connections; with his family, his wife, his higher Self, with his first love, poetry, suddenly blossomed. The addictions he had to alcohol and drugs lost their hold. The simple act of waking up to a new day was no longer agony, but a gift. True presence with a loved one; a joy instead of a torture.

This act of saying “Yes” to the Universe’s desire to create through all beings, and to connect them in right relation completely and utterly changed John’s life. In little over a year since writing that poem, he was approached to publish his first book. A year or so later, his second and latest, Medicine, was published. He hosts a monthly open mic for poets, and is the host of The Sock Drawer Poetry Series on WinlifeTV.

Continuing his work with the teachings of the Medicine Wheel, John has nearly completed a two year course of study learning the practice of Energy Medicine at the Whitewinds/Featherstone Institutes, and already a certified Reiki practitioner, John will be joining his wife Brenda at her healing center, Sacred Celebrations, upon graduation.
